Trabecular MetalTM becomes more and more important in revision hip arthroplasty. In our study we retrospectively evaluated the short-term clinical and radiological outcome of 44 tantalum cups in 41 patients. The mean duration of follow-up was 29,3 months, 34 patients were evaluated clinically and radiologically. Average Harris Hip Score was 65,8 points postoperatively. Four cups had to be changed and four tantalum shells were considered to be loose radiologically. We investigated gaps in 12 patients, especially in the polar regions. At last exam, 96 % of these gaps had completely filled. As causes for the moderate results we determined the high age of the study population, a high rate of simultaneous change of the femoral component and the comorbidity of our patients.
