The preparation of 3d models and their applications in groundwater modelling context becomes a standard in geosciences. Especially for flow and transport modelling, the integration of 3d structural data is necessary. The geological conditions can be modelled by using interactive modelling strategies. In context of hydrogeological modelling, it is necessary to estimate parameters e.g. depth to groundwater or groundwater recharge tu use it afterwards during the modelling process. Recently, it is difficult to estimate the depth to groundwater in hard rock areas before hydrogeological modelling, if there are no groundwater observation wells. This information is needed for groundwater recharge calculation. In this context, the method Hydro-FaBer was developed. Based on digital elevation model information and creek directions, the depth to groundwater can be calculated. By using this method, it is possible to estimate the depth the groundwater in a fast way. By comparing different existing methods, it can be shown, that the method Hydro-FaBer gives results that are more realistic.
