This study is focused on the development of an innovative Lagrangian model to predict structure characteristics of spray-dryed powders deduced from agglomeration processes in spray-dryers. The main objective of this work is the optimized planning of spray-dryers regarding specific product properties. Therefore, the Lagrangian point particle assumption is extended by storing the position of each particular particle inside an agglomerate. Based on these position vectors, various structure properties such as particle size, porosity or sphericity, which describe the agglomerate morphology, are calculated. The specific model parts are validated and checked for plausibility by means of different test cases. Finally, the advanced agglomeration model is applied in the simulation of an industrial spray dryer.
