The 9 chapters of this Habilitation thesis present the analysis of host-parasite interactions of a eusocial host (bumblebees (genus Bombus)) from the individual to the population level. Using a broad methodological array – from behavioural ecology to gene expression profiling – the influence of sociality on interactions with parasites is analysed with a special focus on mechanisms of resistance. At all analysed levels there are mechanisms of resistance that are interacting with each other and as a result preventing or at least impede the adaptation of parasites towards their hosts. |
