Abnormalities of the left ventricle's size, shape or function are present in 70 and 80 % of dialysis patients. Left ventricular hypertrophy is associated with a high mortality.The left ventricular hypertrophy has a high pre-valence of 76 %. The left ventricular hypertrophy is associated with the cardiac outcome. In this study we investigated the left ventricle function in 29 hemodialysis,13 peritoneal dialysis and 14 patients after renal transplantation by echocardiography. In the important left ventricular parameters LV mass index, ejection fraction, fractional shortening, LV end-diastolic posterior wall thickness and interventricular septal thickness there were no statistical differences among the groups. Thus, the three methods can be seen as equivalent in respect to the cardiac outcome.
