Efforts to protect and improve the environment and climate are increasing globally. This development is not only reflected in rising costs and investments for environmental purposes but also in a growing economic relevance of environmental protection. In order to analyze the significance of the economic factor „environmental protection“ in Germany and in an international comparison this study uses several indicators referring to production and sales from the German perspective as well as several trade indicators in international comparison. In Germany production of potential environmental protection goods has been increasing slightly above-average 2014/15. Thus setbacks in growth referring to the consolidation of the solar industry seem to be overcome. With respect to global export of potential environmental protection goods Germany ranks second behind China. Inspite of considerable global market shiftings Germany still disposes specialization advantages in foreign trade in nearly all world regions. Thereby the markets for potential environmental protection goods particularly those for renewables are still dependent of national regulations and subsidies. |
